The Catacombs in Modern Day
Introduction
The Palermo and Paris catacombs are salient and impact the visitors in a profound manner. Both open to the public as tourist attractions and provide locals and tourists with educational experiences. Although both catacombs were created hundreds of years ago, this does not stop them from being prevalent today. They are an influential way in which people represented their deceased and now, how people view the deceased. Hundreds of years later, there are documentaries, books, movies and endless amounts of papers about the Paris and Palermo catacombs. How the catacombs are portrayed in todays world will be discussed. The remains in the Paris catacombs are presented in a way that individuals are not distinguishable, bones are layed on top of bones and the remains are not intact. Whereas, in the Palermo catacombs, individuals are presented in a state that makes them look alive. They have been embalmed and preserved and the remains are intact.
